Director of Performance Beth MacLeod Largent explains the thought process behind this concert.  “When formulating the concert series, we traditionally include an event highlighting our vibrant voice department. This year, we chose to pair them with our flute and harp faculty.  This collaboration lends itself to holiday music, as there’s nothing so sweet as the flute, harp and voice combined – thus Songs of the Season was born!”

She continues, “Concert goers will hear some lovely music by Britten and others.  The concert will end with a festive sing along of seasonal favorites.  People will leave with their spirits renewed and hearts lightened.”

Selected by Voice Department Chair Emily Browder Melville, the Songs of the Season repertoire includes Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Let the Bright Seraphim by Handel, Three Irish Folk Songs by John Corigliano,  Deux Poems de Ronsard by Albert Roussel, and Five Songs from James Joyce by John Heiss.

“This year’s winter concert is all about the delightful surprises that come when voices are paired with instruments,” says Emily Browder Melville, “The audience will be treated to an intimate vocal ensemble with harp, solo voice bantering with solo flute, and singer and trumpet invoking the music of the heavens.”

Following the performance, the audience is invited to a reception to meet the performers and have a bite to eat.  Beer and wine are available for purchase.

Other CCS performances include family entertainer Vanessa Trien on February 5, Jazz/Rock/Pop Jam on March 4, and The Sherwoods of Cornell on April 20 and 21.
