Students Inducted into Hingham High National Honor Society

The National Honor Society inducted 39 new members last night at a candelight ceremony.

The induction ceremony was held at the auditorium in front of parents and family members, and was followed by a reception. The 36 current members were also introduced and honored.

National Honor Society president Nicole Woody, vice president Claire von Loesecke, secretary Thomas Stack, and treasurer Harry Rein spoke to the new members about the characteristics of a NHS member. The senior officers asked the new members to be loyal to their school and to maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

The NHS current members invited Social Studies Department Director James Kirkcaldy to be their guest speaker.  Kircaldy spoke about the current job market and encouraged students to pursue a career that they will love.

"Students who follow their hearts in choosing their majors, most likely will end up laboring in what they love," he said. "They put in a lot of hours and intense effort in which achievemnet requires." 

Then new inductees were introduced individually by NHS advisors Leo Piantes and Karen Shaw and then each were presented with membership certificates and pins by principal Dr. Girouard-McCann and assistant principals Jennifer Henriksen and  Richard Swanson.

Next year's officers were also announced at the end of the ceremony.    Jake Awtry will be the president, Christine Connolly will be vice president, Edward Pershing was announced as the next secretary, and William Harlow will be the treasurer.
