Summer Camp Spotlight: Hingham Recreation Playground Program

A popular day camp held at the Recreation Center.

More than 250 Hingham children are taking part in the Hingham Recreation Playground Program this summer. Running in four two-week sessions from June 27-August 19, the day camp for children ages 6-12 offers opportunities for many different activities, with special events throughout the season.

The camp day is organized in a block schedule, with campers grouped by age. Groups rotate through different activities, including a game/arcade room, a gym period with group games, arts and crafts and sports activities. In addition, the “Gamin” period provides special opportunities such as karaoke, talent shows or large group games.

Special events each session include programs such as yoga, animal visits, dance classes and boot camp. Field trips this summer have included Southwick Zoo, Nantasket Beach and George’s Island. Finally, to wrap up each session, the camp throws a “last blast” party with a cookout lunch and activities including inflatables, water slides, a moonwalk and a dunk tank.
