Summer Camp Spotlight: Hingham Recreation Teen Extreme

Sun and fun for the tweens and young teens

Hingham kids in grades 6 through 9 are having the time of their lives at Hingham Recreation’s Teen Extreme Camp. The three-week program enrolls 45 campers under the supervision of three to four adult chaperones through August 18.

The structured day camp offers two field trips each week, plus a field day and a beach day.  Campers participate in traditional camp activities including field games, tie-dye and arts and crafts, and also use the game room at the Recreation Center. This year’s excursions are to Patriot Place, Canobie Lake Park, two water parks, the New England Aquarium and Fenway Park.

Assistant Program Supervisor Sonya Fairhurst says the camp offers the right mix of structure and freedom.

“We give them a little bit of independence,” she said. “Some kids need that. It’s a chance to explore on their own, while still being supervised and safe.”
