10-Year-Old Piano Prodigy to Perform at NAMM Show Tomorrow

The Yamaha Music Education System will present its captivating Junior Original Concert (JOC) on Thursday, Jan. 24. The young musicians will perform at 1 p.m. at the Marquis Ballroom at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel. All NAMM attendees are invited to enjoy the free concert event, which will feature outstanding Yamaha Music School students performing their own original compositions.

Among the performers will be 10-year-old Lily Hoyt, a student at Yamaha Music School of Boston in Lexington, who will perform her original piano solo composition, The Spirit of the Lights.

Isaac Quiñones, age 13, is a student at Heid Music in Appleton, Wis. Percussionist M.B. Gordy and Clarinetist Phil O’Connor will join Isaac in performing his original ensemble composition, Dishtowel Rag. Karalyn Schubring, also age 13, is a student at East Valley Yamaha Music School in Chandler, Ariz. Soprano saxophonist Michael Hernandez will accompany her in the performance of her original ensemble composition The Journey.

The Yamaha Music Education System is operated in music schools and musical instrument dealers in 40 countries worldwide. Six million students have graduated from the System, including many professional musicians, since its inception over 50 years ago. Currently, over 600,000 students are enrolled. Past cities include Paris, Tokyo, New York, Milan, Boston, Los Angeles and Vienna in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center to name a few.

The Yamaha method and materials are produced, published and distributed worldwide by the Yamaha Music Foundation in Tokyo. In the United States, 60 schools located throughout the country are authorized to teach the method. Highly trained teachers, certified by Yamaha Corporation of America, teach the weekly lessons, which cover everything from ear training to keyboard performance.
