Boston Magazine Ranks Lexington Fourth Best For Public Schools
The district fell from #2 to #4 in Boston Magazine's annual ranking of Massachusetts school districts.

LEXINGTON, MA — Boston Magazine's September issue contains its closely-watched, annual ranking of public schools in Greater Boston and Lexington once again cracked the top 10. But this year, the district checked in at number four, down two spots from 2016's number two rating. Concord-Carlisle and Weston jumped ahead of Lexington in this year's list while Dover-Sherborn held onto the top spot.
The rankings are based on class size, test scores, AP participation, graduation rates and college attendance. This year the magazine also included per-pupil spending, which was $17,867 in Lexington. Year-over-year, Lexington's percentage of graduates attending college dropped to 84% from 89.7%; by comparison, 90% of Dover-Sherborn's graduates enrolled in college.
Lexington did, however, have the highest average SAT reading scores (619 out of 800), writing scores (611 out of 800) and math scores (645 out of 800) of all 125 districts included in the analysis. The district also had the third highest number of students taking AP classes, with 819.
