An Afternoon with Rachel Dratch: Girl Walks Into a Bar...Comedy Calamities, Dating Disasters and a Midlife Miracle

Rachel Dratch was a cast member on Saturday Night Live for seven seasons, where she was known for her characters, Boston teen Denise “Zazu” McDonough, the “Lovers” professors with Will Ferrell, and Debbie Downer. Her first book, Girl Walks into a Bar... is a side-splitting memoir that recounts the hilarious adventures and unexpected joy of dating and becoming a mother when she least expected it-at the age of forty-four. Rachel grew up in Lexington with her parents and her brother Dan, who became a comedy writer and a “bunch of funny girls from Lexington” who kept her laughing and provided excellent comedy training. To this day, she still counts the “Lexington Ladies” among her best friends.

Rachel joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in the fall of 1999 and was with the show for seven seasons. Since leaving SNL, Rachel has done various TV, film and theater projects.
