Metropolitan Wind Symphony Band Concert

The Metropolitan Wind Symphony, a by audition concert band, will continue their 41st season with their Spring Band Concert on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm, at Cary Hall, 1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA. MWS Music director Lewis J. Buckley will conduct the program. Featured will be Concerto for Bassoon and Wind Ensemble by Eric Ewazen, with MWS Concerto Competition Winner Jason Caron soloing on bassoon. Also featured will be the wind classic New England Triptych by William Schuman, and Three City Blocks by Pulitzer Prize winner and M.I.T. Institute Professor John Harbison. Select students of music teachers who are MWS members will join the MWS on the stage for the second half of the concert, where the combined ensemble will perform Dances from a Different Village by Lewis J. Buckley, which was written as a commission for the U. S. Air Force Academy Band, The American Dream by James Beckel, and the timeless First Suite in Eb by Gustav Holst. Buckley will deliver a pre-concert lecture at 1:30 pm.
