The Master Singers of Lexington, Adam Grossman, Music Director
The Master Singers has commissioned a new choral composition for its upcoming concert "The Natural World" by composer Patricia Van Ness, who has written for the Kings Singers as well as for the Harvard Memorial Church Choir. The piece is entitled “Temple of Nature", and is based on a poem by Erasmus Darwin, the eccentric 18th century British polymath who co-founded the Lunar Society and was the grandfather of Charles Darwin. His poem anticipated the theory of evolution by 65 years. The program also includes Dvorak’s In Nature, Hindemith’s Six Chansons, Schubert choruses including Gott in der Natur for women and piano, three Elizabethan madrigals, and a selection of Grieg's Lyric Pieces performed by pianist Eric Mazonson. The concert is at First Parish Church, 7 Harrington Road, Lexington, 8:00 pm. Tickets $23 with $5 discount for seniors and students.
