Lexington Faces North Quincy in High School Quiz Show Finals
The state championship broadcast will air at 6:30 p.m. this Sunday, May 19, on WGBH 2.

It’s down to the top two Massachusetts public high schools on High School Quiz Show, as the academic teams from Lexington High School and North Quincy High School compete for the state championship Sunday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. on WGBH 2. The winner moves on to compete in the inaugural Governor’s Cup Challenge against New Hampshire Public Television’s Granite State Challenge championship winner.
Lexington High School advanced to the state championship after defeating Rockport High School in the semifinals, and North Quincy High School outscored Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in the semifinal round.

Leading up to Sunday’s state championship broadcast on May 19 at 6:30pm, WGBH will re-air High School Quiz Show’s quarterfinal and semifinal episodes back-to-back that day, 1:30-4:30pm on WGBH 2.
“An exciting battle of the brains is coming to an end. This year’s competition has celebrated academic success and good sportsmanship, and the championship match is sure to continue that tradition,” said Hillary Wells, executive producer of High School Quiz Show. “Congratulations to all the students, coaches and parents who have made this the most exciting season yet, and good luck to the students from Lexington and North Quincy in the final showdown.”

Hosted by Billy Costa, WGBH’s award-winning academic tournament is in its fourth season. Sixteen teams participated in the tournament, after qualifying from a field of nearly 100 public schools across Massachusetts. The winning team from this week’s match up will represent the Commonwealth in the inaugural Governors Cup Challenge, an interstate matchup of Massachusetts’ High School Quiz Show champion and New Hampshire’s Granite State Challenge champion. Granite State Challenge airs on New Hampshire Public Television. The Governors Cup Challenge will air on Sunday, May 26 on WGBH 2 and NHPTV.
High School Quiz Show is endorsed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Princeton Review judges the televised competition and reviews the questions. All questions are aligned with the Massachusetts high school curriculum standards in subjects that include literature, history, science, and math, as well as current events and general knowledge. Major sponsorship for High School Quiz Show is provided by Safety Insurance and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation.
