Lexington Man Dies on Boy Scout Rafting Trip: Report

A Lexington man was killed while chaperoning a rafting trip, according to a report by the Lexington Minuteman.

LEXINGTON, MA—A Lexington man was killed Saturday during a rafting trip in Forks, ME, according to a report by the Lexington Minuteman.

The report indicates that Michael Arena of Centre St. died while chaperoning a rafting trip with Boy Scout Troop 160, the troop that his son David belonged to. Arena was thrown from the boat when powerful waves nearly flipped the boat, according to the report.

The report cited a discussion with Sgt. Chris Simmons of the Main Warden Service, who said that "the possibility is great" that Arena likely died from drowning due to being pushed under strong and turbulent waves.
