More specifically, LPD has worked to incorporate the eight principles of the #8CantWait initiative, which seeks to reduce the likelihood of excessive force by our officers.
Principles of #8CantWait
- Ban chokeholds & strangleholds
- Require de-escalation
- Require warning before shooting
- Requires exhaust all alternatives before shooting
- Duty to intervene
- Ban shooting at moving vehicles
- Require use of force continuum
- Require comprehensive reporting
To give the community a better understanding of how LPD policies align with the #8CantWait principles, Police Chief Mark Corr has put together a “crosswalk” document with commentary on each principle.
