Lexington Students Win Prizes in National Art Competition

At least four students who live or learn in Lexington have won prizes in the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Lexington native Phoebe Britton, a senior at the Landmark School, was recently named a Gold Award winner for her “Self Portrait,” a charcoal illustration. 

In a press release, Landmark Headmaster Bob Broudo called Britton’s work “outstanding” and said it was excited to see the work recognized on a national level after earning a Gold Key in the Massachusetts Scholastic Art and Writing Awards last month.

Britton was not the only local student honored. According to the Globe, 92 Massachusetts students were honored, representing 58 schools and 44 cities and towns.

Among them, according to the Globe, are:

• Eva Kjelsberg, an eighth-grader at Clarke Middle School, who won a Gold Key and Gold Medal for “Alone” in the art, digital art category
• Alexander Lehr, an eighth-grader at the Lexington Montessori School, who won a Gold Key and Silver Medal for “The Empty Men” in the category of writing, science fiction/fantasy
• Catherine Wang, an eighth-grader at Diamond Middle School, who won a Gold Key and Gold Medal for “Chiesa Farm” in the category of art, drawing
