Police Investigating Death of North Carolina College Student from Lexington: Reports
Multiple reports indicate that the death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.

ELON, NC — Police at Elon University in North Carolina are investigating the death of a student from Lexington, according to multiple reports.
Reports indicate that police were called to the apartment of Derek Winton, 22, of Lexington early Saturday morning where he was found unresponsive. WNCN, a TV station in North Carolina, reports that police discovered someone trying to revive the victim upon arrival.
Winton was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to multiple reports.

According to his obituary from the Douglass Funeral Home, Winton was a senior at Elon studying sports management, and was vice president of the Sigma Pi fraternity.
Derek's visiting hours will be Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at Hancock United Church of Christ, 1912 Mass Ave., Lexington. A memorial service will be held at Hancock Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept.17. Additional parking will be available at the First Parish Church, 7 Harrington Road.
