ReelAbilities Film Festival Coming to Lexington

The festival will screen "Gabe," about a man told he won't live past 25. When he finds he was misdiagnosed, he has to rethink his life.

LEXINGTON, MA – The ReelAbilities Film Festival stops by Lexington this week to share a powerful story of a young man who finds he may live twice as long as he expected. "Gabe" tells the story of Gabe Weil, a 27-year-old man with muscular dystrophy who is told he'll be lucky to live past 25.

But when Gabe finds he was misdiagnosed and could live well into his 50s, he is forced to rethink his life from scratch.

The ReelAbilities Film Festival shares stories of people with different abilities in an effort to promote awareness and inclusion. The stories told offer a window into the lives, stories and artistic expression of people of all abilities from a variety of communities.

"The line-up for this year’s ReelAbilities Film Festival is one of the best we’ve ever had in Boston due to the number of high quality documentary films produced about people with disabilities," Festival Director Mara Bresnahan said in a statement. "Each documentary challenges our audience to think differently about people with disabilities in a time when conversations about diversity are crucial. In addition to the variety of perspectives represented in the films, their stories unfold on the screen in a unique and beautiful way."

"Gabe" will screen at the Cotting School on April 5 at 7 p.m., followed by a discussion with director Luke Terrell.
