Rotary Club of Lexington Expands to Minuteman High School

Rotary Club of Lexington Expands to Minuteman High School

LEXINGTON – The Rotary Club is expanding to a local high school. Members of the Rotary Club of Lexington on October 23 formally recognized the creation of a new student organization at Minuteman High School, the Community Service and Learning/Interact Club.

The Interact Club, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lexington, is designed to enable young people to develop leadership skills while working on local and international projects. The Rotary Club hosted the Interact Club’s four student officers at a luncheon held at Minuteman’s student-run restaurant, The Fife and Drum.

Lexington Rotary President Lori Moresco and Past President Susan Carabbio awarded the Interact Club officers with a Certificate of Organization.

Ms. Carabbio commended Minuteman’s Interact Club on its recent participation in an event that included both the Concord and Lexington Rotaries and their student Interact Clubs. More than 50 participants helped pack almost 16,000 meals in Minuteman’s cafeteria for hurricane victims on October 15. Ms. Carabbio also thanked the Minuteman students for leading a canned food drive for the Lexington Food Pantry.

Ms. Carabbio, who serves as chair of Minuteman's General Advisory Committee, initially suggested the creation of an Interact Club at Minuteman.

Connie Maynard, the Interact Club's advisor, was present at the luncheon along with parents of the student officers and Lexington’s Rotarians.

Interact Clubs are for young adults between the ages of 12-18 and are designed to help them gain leadership skills while discovering the power of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club’s motto. The Interact Club will be for Minuteman High School students only. A Lexington Rotary Club member will attend at least one meeting every month.

The new Interact Club at Minuteman has nearly one dozen current members.
