Barney is a sweet, quiet guy with a dignified but engaging demeanor. He loves looking out windows and receiving gentle attention. But most of all, Barney, who is about 5-years-old, LOVES to sit on laps. He can often be seen on the laps of visitors and volunteers, purring away! If it was up to him, he'd stay that way for hours! Please note that Barney has tested positive for FIV. FIV is NOT a highly contagious disease but is transmitted through bite wounds from cat to cat. Barney has been very tolerant of the other FIV+ cats he has lived with here at the shelter. Barney is hoping for a loving, quiet home in which he can feel safe and secure.... Oh, and also get plenty of lap time!

The mission of Gifford Cat Shelter is to provide a safe haven for abandoned, stray, abused, neglected, unwanted and injured cats with the goal of re-homing and ending the needless killing of community and companion cats. It was the first cageless shelter in the country and has been in existence since 1884.
