Would You Agree with a Tobacco Ban in Lexington?

The central Massachusetts town of Westminster is considering banning tobacco products. It would be the first such ban in the state.

This month, CVS stopped selling cigarettes and other tobacco products at its stores.

Now a town in central Massachusetts could become the first in the state to enact a similar ban.

The Westminster Board of Health proposed ending the sale of tobacco products in the name of public health—specifically regarding children.

“Despite state laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors, access by minors to tobacco products is a major public health problem,” the board said in a statement.

The Boston Globe reported the ban would be the first of its kind in the state. Some Westminster business owners oppose the measure, saying it would hurt sales.
