5 Things You Need to Know Today, March 22
Elementary or high school, public or private, athletics or extra-curricular, students in Malden are stepping up.

Today is Tuesday, March 22. Here are five things you need to know:
A break in the light snow action: It’s only Tuesday, but it’s already clear that this week is no prize. Today could be the high point, with clear skies and temperatures in the upper-40’s.
A scary moment at the Linden: City officials think heavy snow cover damages the portion of the Linden School’s façade that broke off and crashed onto the front entryway Monday afternoon. School Superintendent Sidney Smith said the city would inspect all school buildings for any similar damage.

The kids are all right: Let’s all stop for a second and give Malden’s students a hand for an incredible streak of success over the winter months. Malden Catholic won the Super 8, Mystic Valley’s and Cheverus’ fifth and sixth grade boys basketball teams won their respective divisions, the Mystic Valley swim team went undefeated—again—and placed well at States, Malden High School’s Model UN Club excelled at state competition, the MHS theater group Play Production has made it to the state finals, and the Blue and Gold newspaper has won writing excellence awards. We’re all worried about budgets, buildings and state mandates, but the kids have tuned out all that noise and made Malden proud.
Suspect arrested in Medford Stabbing: Yeah, it’s one town over, but the stabbing of a Medford jogger last weekend was startling and scary. Medford police believe they have one of the perpetrators in custody, arresting a Great Barrington man for this “random act of violence.”
