Network Health Promotes Joe Pavao to Director of e-Business and Business Intelligence

MEDFORD, Mass. — Network Health, a Massachusetts health plan that provides access to high-quality health care for more than 215,000 Massachusetts residents with low and moderate incomes, announced today that it has promoted Joe Pavao to director of e-business and business intelligence. Pavao, a resident of New Bedford, Mass., previously served as Network Health manager of e-business.
“Joe has grown with Network Health, and has been chiefly responsible for the engineering and development of many of the Web, e-business, and analytical systems which support our members and providers, and contribute to the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Peter Bristol, Network Health vice president and chief technology officer. “Joe’s keen sense of the information technology forces re-shaping health care and his engineering mindset make him a perfect fit for this position.”

Pavao will lead business intelligence and e-business operations to ensure the availability and effectiveness of all critical clinical and business systems. Specifically, his responsibilities include directing, coordinating, and planning all aspects of business intelligence, including analytical systems support, data warehousing, performance analytics systems, and quality-of-care data measurement. Additionally, Pavao will continue to extend Network Health’s e-business capabilities by anticipating customer expectations and market trends and implementing processes to monitor and address quality improvement opportunities. He will also continue to act as a key internal advisor on the organization’s health information exchange systems, designed to improve availability of key clinical data to ensure the best care is provided to members.

Pavao has held several key roles with the IT team at Network Health. He first joined the health plan in 2002 as a systems analyst where he played an integral role in the conversion of data from a legacy system to a modern system. In 2009, Pavao was promoted to manager of e-business.

In that role, he oversaw the relaunch of www.network-health.org and the unveiling of the
Network Health Member Connect portal, an online self-service tool that allows members to manage their health care 24/7, update personal information, and search for and choose providers. Network Health Member Connect serves as the platform for secure health records and secure messaging, and other tools designed to improve access to information.
Prior to joining Network Health, Pavao was a technical support specialist and special computer assistant at UMass Dartmouth in Dartmouth, Mass. At UMass Dartmouth Pavao was responsible for defining and implementing the university’s network infrastructure. He was charged with implementing backup, disaster recovery, and antivirus programs. Pavao has also worked at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island in Providence, R.I.
Pavao received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from UMass Dartmouth. He is currently a member of the Massachusetts Health IT Council’s Technology Workgroup.
