Concrete Falls From Linden School, Lands on Steps

The concrete block hit the steps around 1:30 p.m. Monday, before school ended. No one was injured.

A large chunk of concrete fell from the façade of the Linden School, landing on the front steps. The concrete, which was part of a slight overhand lining the top of the building, came crashing down 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to School Superintendent Sidney Smith.

“This was a piece of concrete in the overhang at the entrance to the school that fell on the steps,” said Smith during the School Committee meeting Monday night. “.”

No one was hurt by the falling debris. By Monday night, a gap in the overhang was noticeable on the school façade, along the left side of the building’s entryway.

Smith said the building was immediately inspected and a second chuck of the overhang was removed as a precautionary measure. The city will continue to examine school rooflines tomorrow, said Smith.

“We believe the area was compromised due to the excessive snow,” he said. “Another stone was removed. They removed that as a just-in-case scenario.”
