Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 17

How 'bout this weather?

Today is Thursday, Feb. 17. Here are five things you need to know:

Warmthpocalypse continues: Today’s high is expected to flirt with 50 degrees, and it’ll be even warmer tomorrow. We are tantalizingly close to long-sleeves-and-car-windows-down weather. Enjoy the break from the last few weeks of evil winter weather.

The search is on: The School Committee held a pretty heated meeting last night. The disagreement stemmed from differences in how to handle internal candidates. At the end of the session, the body agreed to move forward and negotiate with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees to coordinate the superintendent search to replace the retiring Sidney Smith. The motion was amended, however, and now requires that in-district candidates get an audience with the School Committee regardless of the search committee’s recommendations. Confusing, to be sure. Check back with Malden Patch today for more details.

Do-Si-Dos aren’t just ridiculously good cookies: No, there’s no sawdust on the floor. And no, there isn’t a stage protected by chicken wire. But you still have a chance to do a little line dancing tonight at the Senior Center. Swing your partner round and round at 6:15 p.m..

Organizing the neighborhoods: Public safety is the topic at tonight’s Ward Five meeting. All Malden residents are welcome to the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Forestdale School.

Guitars and Guinness: Looking for a little live music tonight? Ryan LaPerle performs at 9 p.m. tonight at District 7.
