Lifelong Malden Resident Now Associate Justice of the Appeals Court​ [PHOTOS]

Justice Kenneth Desmond, Jr. was appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker, who spoke at his Ceremonial Oath of Office in Boston.

Lifelong Malden resident Kenneth Desmond, Jr. is now the Honorable Kenneth Desmond, Jr. Desmond, of course, is now an Associate Justice of the Appeals Court after last Monday's Ceremonial Oath of Office in Boston.

Malden officials, including Mayor Gary Christenson and City Councillor Neal Anderson attended the ceremony at the John Adams Courthouse. Anderson served as the Master of Ceremonies and Pastor Wayne Gadie of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Malden performed the invocation.

“I was honored to have been invited to the swearing in of my good friend Justice Desmond,” said Mayor Gary Christenson. “I have no doubt that he will continue to make Malden proud.”

Gov. Charlie Baker, Massachusetts Appeals Court Associate Justice Sydney Hanlon, and Chief Justice Scott Kafker also spoke.

According to the City of Malden, Desmond received his undergraduate degree from Tufts in 1985 and his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1990. He started an assistant District Attorney and later Deputy Chief Legal Counsel for the Middlesex County Sheriff.

Desmond was nominated to the Massachusetts Superior Court by former Gov. Deval Patrick in 2012. Baker nominated him to the Massachusetts Appeals Court in July of this year.
