Malden Getting New Bike-share Program
There's a new way of getting around Malden, and you can try it for free.
MALDEN, MA — Another way of getting around town is right around the corner. And Patch has your way to try it for free when it kicks off shortly in Malden.
LimeBike, a bike-share program akin to Hubway but without the docking stations, is set to launch in Malden as early as next week. If you want to give this a shot, use the code LIMEMALDEN for free rides through the end October. Subscribe to Malden Patch for more local news and real-time alerts.
So how does this work? The bikes are GPS and 3G-enabled, so you can use your smartphone app to find and unlock a nearby bike.

When you are done riding, you lock the back wheel and "responsibly park between the pedestrian-designated sidewalk and the street curb, or at a bike rack," the company said.
The rides cost $1 for a 30-minute block; Students pay 50 cents.

"We are so excited to reach an agreement with city of Malden to bring LimeBike’s dockless bikeshare services to the community," Scott Mullen, LimeBike’s director of Boston expansion. "LimeBike’s flexible, dockless model will help fulfill the original vision of Hubway, which is: bikes everywhere and accessible to everyone."
