After hours upon hours of rehearsal the Malden High School Percussion Ensemble and Color Guard competed in the New England Regional Championships in Dartmouth and Reading on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3.
“Both teams represented the city very well and, in fact, the percussion ensemble stands at the ranking of eighth in the nation if we had chosen to move on to nationals,” said Matt Tavares, Malden High School Band Director. (The Malden High School effectiveness score was actually ranked fourth in the Nation). “This was one of the highest finishes for the percussion ensemble ever, and I am very proud of the work they do and the people that support them.”

Along with the Percussion Ensemble, the Color Guard had their finals in Reading, MA on Sunday, April 3.
“The students did amazing and again showed true why Malden is such an innovative and wonderful place to study the performing and creative arts. Their show, which was based on a reading of the Dr. Seuss book, ‘Oh, the Places You'll Go,’ was entertaining and a breath of fresh air in the NESBA community,” said Tavares.
