Malden Police Swear In Its Newest Member

MALDEN, MA — The police department welcomed its newest officer during a swearing-in ceremony at police headquarters this week, while also marking a significant transition in the department's leadership.

Officer Kyle Couto was officially sworn in surrounded by family members, friends, and supporters. Couto recently graduated from the Municipal Police Training Committee's East Falmouth Police Academy and now begins his career serving the Malden community.

Couto was part of a graduating class of 46 recruits representing 24 law enforcement agencies across Massachusetts. According to the academy's graduation announcement, he was listed among recruits affiliated with Dean College before joining the Malden Police Department.

Police officials congratulated Couto on reaching the milestone and wished him a safe and successful career with the department.

The ceremony also carried special significance for department leadership. It was the final swearing-in ceremony conducted by Chief Glenn Cronin before his retirement.

During the event, Cronin recognized Captain Marc Gatcomb, who is set to become Malden's next Chief of Police when he is sworn into the position on Wednesday, July 1.

As Couto begins his law enforcement career and the city prepares for a change in leadership, the ceremony highlighted what department officials described as the professionalism, dedication, and commitment to community service that define the Malden Police Department.
