Malden Teacher And Basketball Coach Facing Sexual Assault Charges
The man is accused of raping an 18-year-old girl among other charges.
MALDEN, MA — A public school teacher and basketball coach was arrested on serious accusations Wednesday, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
Scott Marino, 54, has officially been charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and battery, and one count of furnishing alcohol to a person under the age of 21. The Stoneham resident reportedly provided alcohol to and then sexually assaulted an 18-year-old girl who he personally knew on Wednesday, Feb. 18 in his town of residence, according to Ryan and Stoneham Police Chief James O’Connor.
Prior to his arrest, Marino was a seventh-grade math teacher at the Linden STEAM Academy and the head coach of the Malden High School girls' varsity basketball team. Malden Superintendent of Schools Timothy Sippel sent an email out to the community the day after the alleged incident to inform people that Marino had been placed on administrative leave while the investigation was carried out.

“The district will fully cooperate with relevant law enforcement agencies in their investigation of the allegations,” Sippel wrote. “Please be assured we will continue to do everything necessary to protect the safety of our students and staff, which is our highest priority.”
The Linden-STEAM Academy is located at 29 Wescott St. that serves more than 800 students between kindergarten and eighth grade. It operated as a standard public school for more than 40 years before becoming a STEAM-oriented “Innovation School” in 2012.
