Two wins and a loss are the latest in basketball news from the charter school.

Mystic Valley Girls Lose to Presentation of Mary

The Girls Varsity basketball team fell to 10-7 on the season after losing 47-34 at Presentation of Mary last Friday.

The girls trailed by just 3 at the half, but were in foul trouble for the entire the contest. At the start of the second half the Lady Eagles managed to tie the game as freshman Jessica Phinney hit two 3-pointers to tie the game at 20. Just as it looked like Mystic Valley was poised to take the lead, more foul trouble came back to bite the Lady Eagles.

Early in the 4th quarter Mystic Valley was down to just two starters on the court for the remainder of the game. The girls held strong but were eventually overcome as PMA used a 27-10 free throw attempt advantage to pad their lead, eventually settling for the 13 point victory.

Jessica Phinney led the way for the Lady Eagles with 16 points. Meghan Foley added 8, Jordan Sullivan 4, Rachel Tortora 3 and Tiffany Gomez 2. The girls return to the court today at 5:30 at home versus St. Clement High School.

Mystic Valley JV Girls Triumph over PMA

The Mystic Valley JV Girls’ Basketball Team beat Presentation of Mary with a final score of 24-23 on Friday.  

PMA came out strong in the first half, leading the game 15-8 at halftime.  With increased pressure and intensity in the third and fourth quarters, however, the Eagles were able to cause multiple turnovers and tie the score at 20-20.  

After two key baskets in the fourth quarter, Mystic Valley pulled ahead, and despite a number of last-minute attempts by PMA, the Eagles secured the victory.

Eighth graders Bailey Chiccuarelli and Sarina Charles led Mystic Valley with 9 points and 5 points, respectively.  Other scorers included Ashley Prudent (4), Violet Sullivan (4), and Martisha Timothee (2).  

The Eagles look forward to their next game against St. Clements on Monday.

Mystic Valley 5th & 6th Grade Boys Now 10-2

The Mystic Valley Boys 5th/6th basketball team rode a stifling defense to defeat Masco 36 – 20 on Saturday morning.

Ten different Eagles got on the scoreboard and the team’s balance created problems for the game Masco squad.  Hunter Kreis led the team with 12 points while Jimmy Arneil, Jared Martino, and Tyler Story scored 4 each.  Adding 2 points apiece were Jonah Crain, Isaiah Granderson, Ian Libby, Ethan Nguyen, Jimmy Petras, and Michael Sickler.

The team’s next game is Saturday against Swampscott at home.
