Mystic Valley Girls’ Swimmers Earn Fifth Straight League Title
Outscoring their closest opponents by more than 100 points, the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School girls' swimmers won their fifth consecutive Commonwealth Athletic Conference League Meet.

The Eagles medley relay team of seniors Allie Krasco and Marisa Cagno, sophomore Maaya Alagappan, and freshman Ava Asai-Sarris opened the meet with a win, finishing with a Sectionals-qualifying time of 2:08.02, more than ten seconds faster than their nearest opponent.
The 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams, composed of senior Fallon Bushee, eighth graders Karina Hanson and sophomore Emily Williams, dominated both events. The swimmers finished almost twenty seconds ahead of the second-place teams in both relays. The Mystic Valley team of Alagappan, Krasco, Asai-Sarris, and Cagno finished second in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Eagles dominated the meet’s individual events as well, winning seven out of eight of them and, in many cases, qualifying for Sectionals and States.
Emily Williams won the first individual event, the 200 freestyle, with a personal best time of 2:15.23.
Bushee, Algappan, and Asai-Sarris then finished first, second, and third in the 200 individual medley. All three Mystic Valley swimmers finished with season-best times, and the Eagles earned 41 points from this event alone.
Eighth grader Caroline Williams won the meet’s next event, the 50 freestyle, finishing with a Sectionals- and States-qualifying time of 26.89. Her teammate and fellow eighth grader Karina Hanson finished in third place.
Needing three seconds to qualify for Sectionals, Williams then competed in the 100 butterfly. She achieved that goal and more, finishing with a time of 1:08.13. Eighth grader Colleen McGlynn finished just behind her in third place.
The Eagles’ depth was evident during the 100 and 500 freestyle, as the girls finished 1-2-3 in each event. In the 100, Bushee finished in first, Hanson took second, and Cagno finished third; and in the 500, Krasco finished first, Emily Williams second, and Alagappan third.
After a short break for the 200 freestyle relay, Krasco jumped back into the pool to win the 100 backstroke. Cagno, Asai-Sarris, and McGlynn then swept the 100 breaststroke, the meet’s last individual event.
In total, eight of the twelve Mystic Valley girls qualified to swim in the MIAA North Sectional meet either individually or in relays. The meet, held at MIT, will take place on Saturday at 4:15 pm.
