Mystic Valley Regional Opens for 2011-12

Sorry kids – the day has come.

will start it's first day of classes at 8 a.m. today, the earliest opening school in the city.

New kindergarteners had their orientation Tuesday, but today's returning children will be greeted by brightly cleaned floors and a new gym – though, maybe a little later than scheduled.

“We were hoping it was going to be (open today),” school spokesman Martin Gately said, noting the gym will ultimately offer students a competition-length pool, basketball and a multipurpose room.

Despite minor delays, Gately said the new gym should be open to students in about six weeks.

Students had been previously using a smaller gym in Everett, as well as the gym in the Maplewood School.
