Needed: Youth Soccer Coaches & Board Members!

Malden Youth Soccer needs both coaches and board members over the summer and for the Fall season. Working with the kids and enabling Malden Youth to play soccer is fun, rewarding, and a great way to meet more people in our city. Here's an example from a boys U12 coach:

After the game, when we huddled and shouted 'Go Malden!' a chill ran through me. These players, the parents, me, and my assistant coaches have gelled into a real team. I love it!

Coaches help kids learn not only soccer skills but also life skills, such as team work, sportsmanship, and that triumph and failure are both part of life.

You can become a coach or assistant coach even if you haven't worked with kids or taught before. High school students are encouraged to become assistant coaches, which counts as community service credit. MYS provides training and resources, including paying for coaches and assistants to attend the first two Massachusetts Youth Soccer license courses. The first license is required of all coaches. If you become a coach and are licensed, after one season your child can participate in MYS for free. All coaches must have a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) request filed with our registrar.

For the Fall, the players need coaches for girls and boys, and for all age levels, from U5 through U14 (4-13 year olds). This summer, we need a U5 Coordinator who will schedule games, set up the fields, and work with the coaches for that age group. The U5 Coordinator will be a MYS Board Member. The youth of Malden also need board members who will coordinate skills development for players and coaches, fundraise, organize events, or help run leagues for specific age groups. Board meetings occur once a month.
