The rankings, based on test performance, graduation rates, and college readiness, highlight Massachusetts' strong showing overall, with nearly half of its high schools in the top quarter nationwide.
   

• Middlesex Sheriff's Office Celebrates Successful 25th Season of its Youth Public Safety Academy (thereadingpost.com) — Malden kids were among more than 500 cadets who spent a week at the Middlesex Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Academy in Chelmsford, learning about police, fire, emergency preparedness, and first aid. The free program, now in its 25th year, brought together children from 40 communities for hands-on demos with agencies ranging from local fire departments to the State Police Air Wing and U.S. Secret Service.
   

• Chinese couple ordered to be deported after tip about illegal voting — feds say they were framed (theblaze.com) — Federal prosecutors say an early voting ballot was fraudulently cast at Malden City Hall as part of an alleged scheme to frame a Chinese couple for illegal voting and jeopardize their immigration status. A man is charged with fraudulent voter registration and voting after authorities say he impersonated the victims, triggering their green cards' confiscation before investigators unraveled the case.
