Report: Malden Public Schools 119th in The Region
City schools rank among the lowest in the region.

The Malden School district ranked toward the bottom of others nearby in a study conducted by Boston Magazine this week.
Statistician George Recck, director of the Math Resources Center at Babson College, created a ranking system which placed Malden 119th out of 135 school districts.

Nearby school districts on the list include:
- Winchester: 20th
- Wakefield: 51st
- Reading: 52nd
- Stoneham: 69th
- Medford: 98th
- Saugus: 112th
- Melrose: 94th
According the Boston Magazine's website, to compile the rankings, magazine staffers compared test scores from elementary, middle, and high schools in 135 districts, then compared to past scores to determine whether the scores were improving or not.

Magazine staffers also took into account the number of AP classes offered at the high school, the availability of freshmen sports, pre-kindergarten programs and other factors in compiling the rankings
