If you receive merchandise that you didn’t order, you have a legal right to keep it as a free gift. Both State and Federal law says that you may keep any unsolicited goods you receive and treat them as a gift. If you are receiving bills or are being called by the company that sent the "gifts", you have no legal obligation to notify the seller, but it is a good idea to write a letter to the company stating that you didn’t order the item and, therefore, you have a legal right to keep it for free.
This is typical with magazine solicitations. If you did not order the magazine, they are most likely trying to get your attention and a new customer.
BE AWARE: When you participate in sweepstakes or order goods advertised as "free," "trial," or "unusually low priced," be cautious and read all the fine print.
