Whiz Kid(s) of the Week: The Golden Tornadoes Band

If you see the Golden Tornado Marching band practicing downtown this week, tip your hat – the group won second place during the New England Scholastic Band Association show in Weymouth last week.

“We actually had the highest score of the night, but received a timing penalty that put us in second place,” director Matthew Tavares said. “It is one of the best starts the band has ever had, and a credit to us all.”

The group will be performing at 8:20 p.m. this Saturday at the Malden/Melrose invitational – the marching band competition starts at 6 p.m.
