Mansfield Man Faces Federal Charges for Threatening President Obama

A Mansfield man accused of making threats towards President Barack Obama in May now faces federal charged in U.S. District Court in Boston according to the U.S. Attorneys’ Office.
Andrew J. O’Keefe, 28, was charged in a criminal complaint on June 15 with posting an online threat to the President of the United States.

On May 13, O’Keefe allegedly posted a threat on an FBI website stating his intent to kill the president and also asked for U.S. Secret Service agents to be sent to his apartment because he could, “use the company,” according to WHDH.
Two days later, FBI investigators appeared at O’Keefe’s Mansfield apartment in an attempt to interview him. O’Keefe refused to talk to the officers before coming out of his apartment 90 minutes later.

A search warrant executed on his residence and vehicle resulted in the seizure of over 100 weapons including swords, double-edged knives, hatchets, spears, an air gun, and two laptop computers. He was previously charged in Attleboro District Court on two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon.
The charging statute provides a sentence of no greater than five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
