Marblehead School Opens To Students, Ceremony Set For Sunday
The new $55 million Lucretia and Joseph Brown School opened its doors to students for the first time Wednesday morning.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Twenty-eight months after Marblehead voters approved a new elementary school for the town, the Lucretia and Joseph Brown School opened its doors to students for the first time Wednesday morning.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Sunday to celebrate the opening. The public is invited to the event that is scheduled to run from 2 to 4 p.m.
Superintendent John Buckey told Patch in August the opening of the new school would be "a celebration of our community's support of public education."

The $55-million school will serve up to 450 students.
It is named after Joseph and Lucretia Brown, who operated a tavern in town after John served in the Revolutionary War. The couple lived on Gingerbread Hill from about 1790 to their deaths in 1834 and 1857, respectively.
