Selectmen to Interview Town Administrator Finalists

The Board of Selectmen will interview two of the candidates hoping to succeed longtime Town Administrator Tony Sasso tonight.

The Board of Selectmen will conduct interviews tonight with the two men recently selected as finalists in the search for a new Town Administrator.

The meeting, scheduled to begin in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of at 6 p.m., will feature interviews with former Belmont Town Administrator Thomas Younger and current Wenham Town Administrator Jeffrey Chelgren.

Younger, 55, is a lifelong Belmont resident who lives on Wiley Road. He has been running the town's day-to-day operations since 2005 and prior to coming home to Belmont, Younger served as the Town Administrator in North Reading for 10 years.

Last year, Younger was a finalist to become town manager in two towns: and . In each case, he was either the runner up or a close third to the eventual candidate selected.

Chelgren, who serves as Wenham's Town Administrator, has worked at since 2002. He was in Nahant's search for a new Town Manager in December.

Marblehead Town Administrator Tony Sasso, who was recently named the 's Man of the Year, is set to retire in the spring after 18 years on the job.

For the last two months the Town Administrator Screening Committee has been meeting in executive session with potential candidates. Tonight's meeting will be the first time the board will sit down with candidates outside of executive session.

Tonight's interviews will be conducted by board members James Nye, Jackie Belf-Becker and Judith Jacobi. Harry Christiensen Jr. and Bret Murray have reclused themselves to avoid a potential conflict of interest.
