Medfield clerk to soon retire; 12 town positions up for election
Feb. 14 is estimated departure date for Carol Mayer, with search for interim clerk plus election help launched

The time is ticking to replace Medfield Town Clerk Carol Mayer who recently announced she will be retiring in mid-February after 25 years of service overseeing elections, maintaining public records, registering voters, processing and issuing dog licenses, conducting the annual municipal census, and handling an array of other responsibilities in the elected position.
The term of office for Mayer doesn't expire until March 2021 (more than a year from now), so an interim appointee will need to be named until that time. Town Administrator Kristine Treirweiler shared at the the Dec. 16 Select Board meeting that she would like to have someone in the interim Town Clerk position by the second or third week of January, especially since early voting for the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary will take in February.
In fact, town officials are now actively looking for volunteers to help the Town Clerk with the February early voting for the Primary. Anyone who is interested in helping to cover a shift or two, have been asked to call Carol Mayer at 508-906-3024.

According to Treirweiler, the outreach for potential interim candidates will start with retired town clerks from other municipalities, and inquiries will be made of current town hall employees who have helped with clerk responsibilities in the past to check their interest.
