Medfield Foundation Launches Youth Leadership Program

The Youth Leaders will help organize the Angel Run on Sunday, Dec. 7.

The Medfield Foundation (MFi) has launched the Youth Leadership program, which is meant to encourage volunteerism among high school students.

According to a recent press release, MFi is the organization that puts on the Angel Run, which relies on many community members who volunteer their time each year to execute the event for well over 1,000 participants. Twelve Youth Leaders were selected to participate in the pilot program and assist in all facets of the event. Activities include publicity, race route decorations, sponsorship solicitations, registration, data reporting and post-party decorating and clean up.

Jan Rimmel, an MFi board member along with long-term Angel Run organizer Marianne Phillips, are the co-creators of the Youth Leader program. The Youth Leaders were chosen based on prior experience with the Angel Run or by nomination based on a strong interest to get involved in community service. To qualify, students need to exhibit the skills necessary for their respective role. MFi Youth Leaders are expected to make a two-year commitment to the program to learn and enhance their role and train others for future events.

“I’m grateful to have been selected for the Youth Leader program because I get a chance to combine two things that I love-- helping my community and using my creativity,” freshman participant Annie Reilly said.

“I was extremely excited to be selected for the MFi Youth Leader program. I look forward to helping with the Angel Run because it is a fantastic community event that I have participated in for as long as I can remember,” said junior Connor Corrodi.
