MHS Theatre Society Presents ‘Gold in the Bones’ This Weekend

Medfield High School's Theatre Society kicks off its 2011-12 season with two performances of "Gold in the Bones," a pirate drama, which will take place in the Lowell Mason Auditorium of the high school Friday and Saturday night.

Since mid-September, 60 to 70 students in Medfield High School’s Theatre Society have been rehearsing and preparing for this weekend’s performance of  the pirate drama “Gold in the Bones.”

“Everyone has put in a lot of time and effort and it’s shaping up great,” said Ryan Maloney, publicity coordinator of the MHS theatre society. [Though] it’s labeled a drama … there are scary and laughable times. It’s a must see.”

The three short plays featured are “haunted pirate tales” written by Washington Irving and adapted by Eric Coble.

“Gold in Bones is a trilogy of short pirate stories told from the perspective of the last remaining member of Captain Kidds crew, Peter De Groot,” Maloney said. “The first [play], ‘Guests From Gibbet Island,’ features Yon Yost Vanderscamp, owner of the Wild Goose Tavern and his haunted dealings with Pirates. The second, ‘Golden Dreams,’ follows the poor Wolfert Webber losing his mind over finding Captain Kidds’ lost treasure. The last, ‘The Devil and Tom Walker,’ follows Tom Walker selling his soul to the devil.”

Opening night performance is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Lowell Mason Auditorium of the high school. A second performance will also take place in the auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in order to see the show(s).
