50 $3K Scholarships Offered To Medford Seniors In 2019

The James and Thelma Connors Foundation is once again offering dozens of scholarships to local students.

MEDFORD, MA – James Connors left behind a small fortune when he died in 2016. The Medford man, who lived a quiet life with his sister up until her death, had inherited over $3 million in blue-chip stocks.

Connors asked that the money be donated to the James and Thelma Connors Foundation, which he founded prior to his death. The non-profit awarded 50 $3,000 scholarships to high school students in Medford last year, and will offer scholarships once again in 2019.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 28. Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible:

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be residents of the City of Medford, MA., attending public, charter or private secondary programs.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, age 21 and under, who will be entering their first year of post-secondary study in the Fall of 2019.
  • Plan to enroll in full time undergraduate study at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2019-2020 academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
  • Willingness to attend an awards event, upon invitation

The program will use recipient selection criteria including the consideration of academic performance; demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, any unusual personal or family circumstances and an outside appraisal from a non-related adult teacher, counselor, coach or work supervisor.

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.
