Here comes the Sun- Medford's going Solar!
Solar Electricity Program available in Medford this summer. Workshop June 18th at the library

“Here comes the sun…do do do do.” Such a nice ditty from George Harrison, it always makes me hopeful for better days. Solar energy has the potential to make us hopeful for a better century. The more I learn about Solar electricity and Solar hot water - the more I want to spread the word about the value and sustainability of these energy options.

Recently, the city of Medford, MA applied for and was granted an opportunity to offer Solar electricity at a discount, for a limited time* , based on the number of Kilowatt of capacity that are contracted. It’s part of Solarize Mass, a significant initiative, run statewide by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), that is helping to save residents, businesses, and organizations substantial money on the cost of Solar electricity installation. The Solarize Mass program, which is in its 3rd year, has led to the installation of about 5 megawatts of Solar electric power. Amazing!
There is strong Solar electricity interest here in Medford. At the Farmer’s Market last Thursday, Medford resident Bridget Collins said to me, “Energy is not getting any cheaper” and she said she drives a Prius, recycles, grows organic vegetables, and she is planning to attend the community meeting on June 18th at the Medford Library to get detailed information to apply to her home.
