Politicians Do Respond

Dear Neighbors,

Policticians may not always lead but they very often Respond.  We the people can apply pressure on any given subject.  Please show up and let your voice be heard.  Being in the room matters.  It doesn't matter what the issue is whether it be a dog park or adding multicultural police to the roles - show up!  Being in the room matters. Show up and let your voice be heard.  Democracy doesn't just happen, we have to work for it. 

If we don't show up, we get the government we deserve.  Who's the government? Remember that we are the government.  It may be hard to remember but We are the government the mayor, council, and school committee are only our representatives.  No one forces them to be either, any of them can leave at any time.  Should anyone of the 56,000 people in Medford choose to run, feel free to do so.  It is not a monopoly, yet it sometimes may feel that way.  Run for office.  Run on something as benign as a dog park or on keeping the taxes low by finding other monies somewhere else.  But show up and be counted. If you like the status quo, then don't show up and you will get more of the same.  If you don't like the direction of the city, don't complain - show up and say something.  It's your right and your obligation. 

Again, politicians may not always lead but they do respond if pushed to do so.
