Possible Cuts to Anti-Poverty Programs in Medford

City is receiving less block grant funding than last year.

Dear Neighbors,

Last night I attended the government's "block grant fund" meeting and found out that Medford's federal moneys will be cut this year from $280,000 down to only $200,000. These programs cover elderly services (like rides to medical appointments), after school programs for kids, fuel assistance for anyone, to homeless shelters. We are either going to have to kick in the other $80,000 or
decide as a city which programs will receive less money this year. There is a list of all the different programs at the clerks office, I would encourage you to read through them. If we do not make up the difference we are going to have to decide who gets cut and who doesn't.

 Respectfully,

 Jeanne Martin
