This Week at Mystic Art Gallery

For April, the gallery celebrates spring . Our featured artist is Bob Marcellino, well known oil painter. Opening reception is Friday, April 5 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Spring is in the air. The days are getting longer and the snow piles are fast dwindling. Nature is waking up from its winter sleep. Soon the air will be filed with the sweet sounds of the returning birds. It is time to shed the winter doldrums and heavy jackets. Spring is also the theme of this month’s gallery show.  A visit to the gallery is guaranteed to renew the spirit.

April is a busy month for the gallery. On Friday, April 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. there will be a reception for Bob Marcellino , this month’s featured artist .

Bob, along time resident of West Medford, was raised in the Spy Pond region of Arlington.

His artist sense was evident from early age when he exhibited a passion for drawing. He particularly loved to draw trains. As he grew older, he became enamored with natural world and began drawing the ocean. While in high school,  he took art classes where he learned the techniques of painting.  Dabbling in painting for most of his adult life, he began a serious study of painting in 2006, taking classes at Cambridge Center for Adult Education and Provincetown Art Association and Museum where he studied with Christie Scheele, a noted oil painter. He is heavily influenced by Impressionist painters such as Monet and the realist painters like Sargent. His paintings often combine elements of both styles.

He is inspired by New England’s local charm, from the way the natural light plays off the ocean, marshes and dunes, to Mother Nature’s bright hues and forms, and the textures in his very own English garden. Among his favorite places are Cape Cod and Cape Ann.   He is drawn to the contrasting colors between the sky, dunes and marshes and the light playing off them.

Says  Bob, “The vivid colors and natural wonders I observe in my travels abroad and in New England’s changing seasons, give me a soaring passion to recreate the mood, light and feeling I discover in all of this beauty.”

Over the years he has experimented with different painting styles. He now uses beeswax to create a soft edge and a mystical look.  This technique gives the viewer a mood a feeling of joy, tranquility or peacefulness.

Over the years he has exhibited widely in solo and group shows at such venues as the Cutter Gallery in Arlington, Newburyport Art Association, Danvers Art Associations and Provincetown Art Association. His work has also adorned many Medford shop windows. To view more of his paintings, visit his website at rpmarcellino.com.
