Time For Medford to Move On

Time for Medford to insist on improvement and new leadership

I have been involved in several state and national campaigns, and have enjoyed working with the activists in the city. In my view Medford is a city with great potential that has remained stagnant over the past decade due to a lack or leadership, energy, and ideas from the Mayor and the City Council.

Medford is ideally located and can and should be enyoying a boom time. When we look at our neighbors in Somerville, Arlington, and Winchester its clear that their leaders have taken advantage of opportunities to move their city and towns forward.

Meanwhile Medford has not leveraged it highly educated population, strategic location, and abundance of natural green terrain. While our neighbors centers and squares are booming- Mayor McGlynn and the City Council have not been able to even put forward a plan. Its embarassing to drive around the city and see the number of trees that are cut to the stump and then left there for years. And, the lack of a bike paths and bike lanes- is just more evidence that we need a clean sweep at City Hall.

In my humble opinion Mike McGlynn was an adequate Mayor twenty years ago, but he has not been up to the task for the past 10 to 15 years, and as a result the City of Medford has paid the price by falling behind our neighbors. As for the City Council- if possible they have been much worse- not one of the seven ever offers and idea to move the city forward- and none hold the Mayor and his appointees accountable for their lack of planning, vision, and movement forward.

But the good news is we can and should fix this by electing a new Mayor and seven new members to the City Council.
