Where is the New Police Station Mr. Mayor?
Where is the New Police Station Mr. Mayor?
Dear Neighbors,
I understand that the Mayor is going to have a press conference in City Hall tomorrow at 10am. He is said to be introducing new city employees, a city bicycle commision, improvements to Chevalier auditorium, park improvements, and park programs. Would some one from the press ask our Mayor in front of a camera where the new Police Station is and new police officers? It is 2013. We need a Public Safety building that is fully equipt with technology, anti-terrorist capabilities, women police officer and women detainee facilities, handicap accessability, and a firing range fully equipt with an urban assault training course. Why won't the Mayor bond for a new Medford Police facilities? Will a reporter please ask him tomorrow.
The City Counsel shouldn't be let off the hook so easily either. The April 23rd City Counsel meeting went into taxi licenses ad nauseum. While this issue is valid, their is a simple fix. Put a freeze on all new licences until the council has developed a clear policy. When the citizens and residents call you because they don't have a cab, this will motivate you to correct the policy. Grandfather everyone in and new operators live by new rules moving forward. The council spent an hour and a half on this topic with people having to stand up at the podium and endure the discussion that was not their fault. If the policy is not clear, make it clear. Rewrite it. Check out surrounding city's, this issue is not unique to Medford. Question, why isn't the counsel asking for a new police station on behalf of the citizens and residents? Make a public issue out of it. Tell the Mayor publically that you will be happy to bond for a new station. The Public Safety/Security building does not just serve the police and fire, but the whole community. The voters will appreciate it when they need it. And they just may need more than ever. We need a well organized emergency plan for this city with a facility fully equipt to handle it. So, a reporter could ask a counsel member on camera too, where's the new station.

The public is also responsible, while they grumble about it once in a while in a low decible, they would prefer to have a dog park, and things that don't cost as much or things they don't associate with. Most voters would rather spend the money on the library or Chevalier, while these are worth while persuits and should be supported, I don't see civilian lobby for the institution we call Public Security. We take it for granted that it will be there for us when we need it. So reports, ask the people why they don't vocally support and lobby for a new Police Station.
Respectfully,
