Encore Boston Harbor Partners With NAACP, Sets Job Goals

Thousands of operational hires are planned for the resort and casino.

EVERETT, MA – The Mystic Valley Area Branch of the NAACP is partnering with Encore Boston Harbor to promote the hiring of area residents and diverse candidates. The executive team at Encore Boston Harbor has committed to hires that reflect "the diversity that is represented in local communities such as Medford, Malden and Everett," the Mystic Valley NAACP said in a statement.

According to a press release, Encore Boston Harbor's goals are 50 percent female employees and 35 percent minorities. There will be more than 4,000 operational jobs at the resort and casino, ranging from dealers to accountants. The company has also stated it will look to provide opportunities to local and diverse vendors.

"The NAACP is pleased to see that Encore Boston Harbor is working to ensure that our local and diverse communities benefit from the vast economic benefits the resort will have on the region," Zane Crute, president of the Mystic Valley Area Branch of the NAACP, said in a statement. "Both of our organizations share the belief that creating a workplace with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds results in a better experience for all as well as a more successful business. Furthermore, we believe that economic inclusion is paramount for any project of this magnitude."

The NAACP added that it wants to work with Encore Boston Harbor to ensure there are local and diverse hires in upper level positions.

The Everett resort and casino will partner with Cambridge College to host its dealer school, which will
provide the skills necessary to work at the casino, including training in games and working the floor. The NAACP and other groups will ensure that candidates who do not have the money to attend dealer school will still be able to enroll, the organization said in a release.
