On March 28, 2012, Mass Energy and Consumer Alliance, Next Step Living, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and the City of Medford will be hosting a free workshop that focuses on lowering energy costs and improving comfort in 1-4 family unit homes in Medford by utilizing the Mass Save Home Energy Services Program. This informative workshop will include experts on building science, window replacements, solar panels, HVAC and 0% interest financing through the HEAT loan. MAPC will also be discussing their new planning program, which focuses on energy use in Medford.
The free workshop will take place at Medford City Hall from 6:30 PM- 8:00 PM, and is open to home owners, renters and landlords.
Many Medford residents are unaware of the incentives and rebates available through the Mass Save program. This workshop will explain the available services and how to access them to quickly begin saving on energy costs. The Mass Save program provides residents (owners and renters) with a no-cost home energy assessment, immediate savings measures during the assessment like free compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to replace incandescent bulbs in high use areas and free digital, programmable thermostats to replace older thermostats. Beyond the no-cost assessment, the Mass Save program provides 100% instant rebated air sealing in attics and basement rim joists, as well as 75% off – up to $2,000 – towards approved weatherization improvements. Through the no-cost home energy assessment, residents will also receive information about appliance rebates and helpful hints to immediately reduce energy costs. Included within the assessment packet is information regarding the 0% interest HEAT loan, which can be used on a variety of energy efficiency upgrades, including heating system replacement and the replacement of single-pane windows with Energy Star rated windows.
